We touched on the extreme cold weather on the last post. By sunrise Friday we cross under the zero barrier with the temperature staying right around that mark through the day until it turns even colder Friday night. We are looking at sustained winds over 20mph with gusts exceeding 35mph, toss in 3-7″ of snow and we have some miserable conditions for ice fishing and travel. The local news is already reporting over 100 cancellations for Friday and temperatures will remain well below zero Saturday with the winds while still strong beginning to slightly taper off. Both days are showing just brutally cold wind chills.
As Rob mentioned in our earlier video post, it is wise to stay off the lake and take a look at Sunday. With this insane cold and weather the first responders will be busy enough, we don’t need to contribute. There is plenty of time to ice fish yet on Oneida Lake.
Mixed reports in from today, Sylvan Beach and Edgewater produced some walleyes with a lot of shorts. South shore seemed generally off.
We did install the message boards today and will be adding some cool features over the weekend. Hopefully that will enough to keep you entertained during this cold snap.
