Fishing Report: Ready for the Weekend

Spread the love

The north country continues to get clobbered by lake effect snow.  The lake effect snow has not shifted to the south and hit Oneida Lake so far.  A high today of 24 with SE winds at 5-10mph, and we should get 2-4″ of new snow later today from a new storm coming east from the Ohio Valley.  Behind that storm is milder air and we are looking at highs in the mid-30s both Saturday and Sunday with a mixed bag of precipitation as we fish with a falling barometer from now through late afternoon on Sunday.

Fishing Report

Wheelers and sleds are on the ice with the wheelers moving a bit slower (chains).  Walkers are struggling with several coming back in beat or just not willing to fight it.  We have a lot of snow drifts with coverage of 3-16″ in areas, no slush yet.  Generally speaking about 9″ of snow coverage, but again there are plenty of areas with drifts.  I’m still getting ice thickness reports of 10-15″ across the lake.  Fish seem a bit sluggish with the snow, but we are getting reports of some walleye limits along with a few perch on the north shore and from the eastern portions of the lake.  Much more activity on the lake today so we should have some more extensive reports coming in for tomorrow.  We will see how things shake up this weekend with the warmer air and the possibility of rain.
