Coldest Night So Far

Spread the love

The mercury dropped below zero for the first time this winter Sunday night as Oneida Lake continues to build ice.  The 15-day forecast looks great with plenty of cold air, right now we don’t have any major snow events coming either so here’s hoping the lake stays clear.

We still have a lot of people staying on the sidelines for another day but many folks got out and fished off Sylvan Beach and Big Bay on Sunday.  Got good reports of walleye and perch in 20 FOW off the beach.  The spud is crucial, we have varying reports of ice thickness so caution remains critical.

On a sad note, Vella’s North Shore Market in Cleveland has closed its doors for good.  I know many folks who stopped there on the way out to grab a quick bite or for gas.  Not sure of the parking situation as many used the area to access the ice off Cleveland in years past.  Best wishes to Lance and Lisa Vella who have served the north shore community for a long time and tirelessly supported the area.  North Shore Mini Market in North Bay and the Y Hill store further down are good alternatives for gas/propane and convenience items.

We will be firing up the old video camera a couple times this week as the ice fishing season kicks off.
