It’s Going to Get Ugly

The weekend weather picture is becoming more clear.  A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the Oneida Lake region from 1pm Saturday to 4pm on Monday.  The snow will begin Saturday and by midnight we are expecting 1-3″ for the area, this much is child’s play for upstate New York.  It gets worse Sunday where the forecast is calling for an additional 10-20″ of snow with wind.  Followed by some more snow into Monday with bitter cold and wind chills from -20 to -30 F.

The take away is to hit the ice before Sunday, both the roads and fishing conditions will be hazardous Sunday and into Monday.  It was cold again last night, I’m getting reports of 6-7″ of ice more often from those out there.  Walleye activity remains steady along the north shore with a reasonable drag.  Still good perch activity off Sylvan Beach, although it is a bit challenging getting out still.  Access off Big Bay is easy with some ice reports up to 8″ and great crappie and bluegill.

People are still asking about machines, while we are seeing them, most are opting to walk still due to safety concerns.
