The overnight temperature is hitting damn near 50F with some more rain before the fun starts early this morning. As the cold front moves in the temperature will drop below freezing around 11am and plunge all the way to the upper teens by midnight. That’s the good news, the bad news is we are under a wind advisory from 1pm Friday to 1pm on Saturday–that means sustained winds of 30mph with gusts expected to exceed 45mph; really anything after 9am today is going to be windy and possibly risky. The walleye bite has been good early, and that might have to do for today. The wind will be with us into Saturday, peaking in the early hours and finally giving way as the day progresses. Things will return to normal for Sunday.
EDIT: Please check out this link for important updated weather information for today.
Folks are moving out deeper for the walleye bite–32 FOW. Definitely stressing caution today and advising the buddy system, lots of cracks and open ice holes around the lake. A spud and creepers are a must in these conditions. Getting a generally slow perch bite, but some luck with wax worms. Sleds are an absolute no go, we have zero snow on the lake.
South Shore Association and Fallen Outdoors Derbys this weekend, best of luck to those participating.
