Just wanted to pass along information to those that looked at the forecast last night, but didn’t this morning. As of 6am, the forecast looks even worse for today. The wind gusts are now expected to be over 50mph and the lake effect band is now forecasted to be further south than expected even last night. Water is creeping up around the edges of the lake in some areas, noticeably more than even last night. Keep in mind the runoff is rapidly catching up to us and will continue for some time even after we drop below freezing later.
Temperatures are already 20 degrees colder in Buffalo than in Syracuse. With the snow, wind, and tricky ice conditions we are urging everyone to get off the ice early today. Being out there after sunset could be deadly.
Please stay safe folks. The wind is already picking up and we have had some close calls on Oneida Lake recently.
