Deeper trolling, jig bite was terrible with the warmer temperatures, like a July jig bite with the walleye stuck on the bottom. Messenger and out in the channel is good, not many fish off Lakeport, also a few fish off the wall in Sylvan Beach including some good smallies on minnows. A reaction bite was the best way to describe things over the weekend.
Last week was up and down week with weather and wind. Trolling with sticks in 12-14 FOW with good success, Bay Rat short shallows behind boards 8′ down and Jr. Thunderstick from Rot Jaw on lead core targeting 6-10 feet down. Trolling is producing a good mix of fish with walleye limits as well as smallmouth bass, pickerel, sheephead, and perch. Some are also finding success casting blade baits, swim baits, and spinners. “The Hammer” with a casting weight through the weeds is producing nice walleye.
East Shore report from Matt Mattison–
Trolling this week was hot with four lines and a fire drill Flurry of fish. Target 28-31 FOW with green, orange, and white harnesses. Also trolling lead-core with flicker shad has proven deadly pulling in 10 fish in 1.5 hours with fish in the 16-19 inch class.
Thank you Matt for the update on the east end.
All in all a great week for fishing on the lake. Please remember a few tips, be courteous to your fellow anglers and don’t cut off their drift or pass in front of them, please travel behind them as you move, also as you go through a pack of boats, slow down and be safe. Make sure to use your lights at dusk, dawn, and at dark–seeing a ton of boats at night with no lights. And last, carry in and carry out your trash, keep a bag on your boat, and try to take yours plus one item if you can. We make a difference every day. Good luck to you all.
