Bitter Cold for Oneida Lake

Spread the love

After a way too long hiatus we are going to be posting daily fishing reports for Oneida Lake once again.

It is no secret at this point that we are under a major cold snap and significant ice has begun to form on the lake. The future looks good for hardwater lovers with the 15-day extended forecast showing more cold and very few periods–like hours–above freezing for the first half of January.

Some ice reports have come in with 5-6 inches reported in the Big Bay area. I know more than a few planning on getting out over the weekend in what will mark an early season start to what many are predicting to be one of the best seasons in recent memory. Large chunks of the north shore are going to be very difficult to navigate due to the high winds as the ice formed.

I see a good amount of people off Sylvan Beach but do not have any reports in yet. Information should start rolling in here over the next few days.

Site sponsor Bartel Road Bait & Tackle is stocked and ready for the weekend with more product coming in daily.
