Oneida Lake and COVID-19

Spread the love

Due to the Covid-19 crises, the Lions Walleye Derby has been canceled for 2020–the tournament will resume again next year.  Also canceled is the New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame induction banquet, which was set for Saturday, April 25 at Theodore’s Restaurant in Canastota, and the Oneida Lake Association’s annual meeting, which was to be Tuesday, April 28 at Gillette Middle School in Cicero.  The induction banquet and the OLA’s annual meeting may be rescheduled later in the year.

The ice is now fully out of the lake and of course walleye season is closed.  The lake itself is open for fishing with authorities reminding people to practice social distancing.  We will be passing on additional information regarding the COVID-19 impact as it relates to Oneida Lake fishing as it comes in.

For many of the small businesses and people around Oneida Lake and across the world this is going to be a tough time ahead of us.  We hope all of our readers stay safe, healthy, and sane during this challenge and we have faith in our country and particularly the fishing community as we move forward.
