We watched Oneida Lake turn into a slush fest by the hour yesterday, by the early afternoon it had shifted to the grayish color of wet ice.  Once the rain came overnight, the shoreline started to take a beating and we have a real mess–that will continue for a while as the runoff makes its way through the tributaries.  A lot of water is still gushing in and around the pressure cracks.  The good news is that the heavy snow is going to land just to our north and east and the forecasts have it trending away from Oneida Lake.  We will poke above freezing again tomorrow, but some more favorable weather for making ice is coming as next week’s forecast shows temperatures below freezing.  Nothing super cold but it’s a start as we all wait for some decent conditions.

Conditions across the lake are wet, bad, and dangerous.  The last report we got from Big Bay was 5″ (less in many spots) as of yesterday mid-day and it was deteriorating with some bad spots, no reports from other areas means nobody went out anywhere else, at least that we heard from.  It is surely worse this morning.  The wind machine fires up again later today, she has not ripped apart yet, and it’s going to be close to see if it does or not.  It looks more like March out there than February for sure.  Stay safe, hopefully, we will get some ice fishing in soon, but not this weekend.
