Ugly Day

Spread the love

Much more open water is present on Oneida Lake this morning with the roads covered over in a glaze of ice as the area receives a wintry mix of garbage.  We had about an inch of black ice along the north shore yesterday, but that has turned into a soupy, stacked white ice mess this morning.  We are looking at an interesting day/night ahead with high winds and some lake effect snow hitting the area as the temperatures drop back below freezing.  It will be interesting how this all plays out, a lot of people are hoping she rips back open and we just start over–that is starting to happen now.  The strong winds continue into Monday as we finally get the cold we need.

Oneida Lake is right on the border of the 6-8″ and the 2-3″ snow forecast so the north shore may very well wind up with more significant snowfall.  Whether the majority of that falls into open water or ice is anybody’s guess.  We plan to hit a few spots tomorrow to access the damage and/or progress depending on how things work out.  Nightly low temperatures this week look very favorable for improving ice conditions here on Oneida Lake.
