Cooling off Today

Spread the love

A warmer day than expected yesterday created a lot of slush spots, especially along the north shore.  Temperatures during the day today will drop and drop and then drop some more all the way down to well below zero, possibly to ten below and beyond.  Tomorrow’s high only climbs into the mid-single digits before another very cold night heading into Sunday.  A wind chill warning goes into effect for the Oneida Lake area this evening, 6 or 7 pm depending on which of the four counties of the lake you are in–in any event, it gets cold tonight!

The snow should arrive Sunday evening, Oneida Lake is forecast for around 6″ from this event, but more or less could come depending on the storm’s final track.  While some folks continued to get out onto the ice yesterday, others got their spud through in one or two whacks and headed back to shore.  Others report getting out onto 3-4″ of good black ice and moving just ten or twenty feet and spudding to find an inch or so.  Most people are giving it more time to freeze up.

What do you think big bays ice report is currently?

We got a report just now saying four inches, but that is one person. He did mention the ice is variable and thinner as you move south. If you are coming from a long way, maybe hold off until Sunday. People are getting on the ice from Big Bay though. I’d expect it to be really busy there tomorrow and Sunday–get there early for parking purposes.
