The Wind Chill Advisory expires at 10 am this morning. The wind chill at least for Friday dies down late morning as we reach a high of 11F and tonight’s low will reach -5F or lower. Much warmer Saturday and Sunday and the wind looks calmer for Saturday at least. The barometer will continue to rise until 10-11 am this morning before it begins a steady drop, it will be a more pronounced drop through Saturday.
Yesterday produced a number of limits across the lake, and many commented that the bite was slow but steady. Most reports came in from 20-28 FOW, but again a significant amount of good reports from shallower spots, especially on the north shore. We are seeing more open areas free of the snow so creepers/spikes are advised. With the extreme cold, expect more cracks to form. A big crack has been reported just offshore in Cleveland, going all the way to Taft that might present an issue for machines, especially coming in. That said, we are looking at a pretty easy drag out onto Oneida Lake. Most reports of ice thickness here on Oneida Lake are currently at or near 8″ across the lake.
Just a reminder, the launch at Oneida Shores is closed for construction. Access from Godfrey Point has improved and folks are getting out from there as well, a bit of garbage shelf ice chunks in the launch and just offshore, but less and less every day and you’ll be past it quickly.
For the love of God, the walleye limit is still three on Oneida Lake.
