The Oneida Lake region is currently under a severe winter storm warning until 3 pm on Friday.  As of 9 am we have some rain hitting the lake and visibility is low.  We are not seeing many folks out fishing right now.  The rain will switch over to snow moving from the west to the east starting late morning and into the early afternoon.  We are expecting 9-18 inches of snow from the event with the bulk of it hitting tonight.  Visibility is going to be a challenge later in the day so plan accordingly.  The barometer will remain flat through the day tomorrow.

The warm spell did not do damage to the ice, although it is fairly slushy out there right now.  A group we spoke to yesterday reported that they saw an increase of around two inches from Sunday to Wednesday night and were drilling through 14-16″ of black ice from their location on the north shore.  Obviously, after this storm, the nice drag we have enjoyed all year will change and we expect wheelers to have more and more challenges in the next few days.

The aforementioned group reported nice catches all week from the north shore ranging from Cleveland to Jewel with 35-40 FOW being the ticket using jigging raps with a minnow head.  Colors-wonderbread/clown did the trick with the best bite being from 5-5:30 pm where they caught about 50% of their fish.  The rest of the day they were few and far between.

A much-appreciated report came in from the Bridgeport area, no marks from 15-20 FOW from late morning into the afternoon.  Some marks at 26 FOW later in the day, losing a walleye at the hole.  As dark approached, the group moved back into 16 FOW getting some more marks grabbing some perch and a short using perch colors–fire tiger.  Overall, the group reported yesterday as a tough one with the bite much better last week.  Guys, we appreciate the report as we don’t get a ton of reports from that area!
