The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for all of the Central New York region Thursday into Friday.  We are above 50 F overnight working to a high in the lower 50s with a SSW wind from 10-15 mph with higher gusts.  Some gusts up to 40 mph although it seems fairly calm overnight in the very early morning.  Some showers in the morning with the rain becoming steady around 9 am.

We are forecast to receive around an inch, possibly a bit more of rain, but plenty of areas in the Oneida Lake watershed are expected to receive more.  Pay special attention to creeks and other inflows moving forward as we are going to have above-average temperatures next week coming out of all of this rain after a brief cool down on Friday.  We are seeing some very minor impacts along the shoreline as of the end of Wednesday, but we expect much more from this rain.  Pressure is at 30.07 and dropping through the day.  Temperatures plunge tomorrow night into Friday morning with some flash-freezing possible.  The wind will keep ripping through the weekend, with Saturday especially nasty.  Most of our old-timers are staying off the lake on account of the wind, but there were pretty good numbers of people out yesterday.  Saturday should be pretty interesting.

For ice conditions, most reported glare ice with increasing amounts of water, although some tracks are still frozen in for now–you may not see much of that left today.  We did get decent fishing reports from those out, with a couple of walleye limits 28-35 FOW and some nice perch mixed in.  Jigging raps (#5) in wonderbread, black/silver, black/gold, and some perch colors.  We have seen a number of people scattered out along the north shore, particularly as you head west working in some more shallow water, but we don’t have any reports of how they did.  On that note, you can always leave a report by hitting the red “Send Message” button and that will enter you into our monthly t-shirt drawing.
