The rain came in just after noon and it looks like a lot of people exited stage right when that came in. The rain should clear out tomorrow morning and we have another day of warm weather before winter returns. We have rising pressure tomorrow with a high of 45F and the wind will really pick up tomorrow afternoon. We could pick up a significant amount of snow on Friday so, over the next few days, the pick day would probably be Thursday.
We are getting reports of cracks more frequently. That said, the ice is holding up fairly well but from here on out expect varying conditions. We see some water by the shore, but that all is easily traversed. With the runoff, pay special attention around tributaries.
A bit of a mixed bag on fishing reports, but for this time of year it seems above average though a few reports mentioned a rough day out there yesterday. Reports of walleye limits continue to come in, mostly around 30 FOW, seems even those that are struggling are finding at least marks and shorts in the deeper spots. Colors: perch, gold/black, silver, firetiger. Overall, reports indicated a better day today than yesterday. The better shallow water reports are coming in from Big Bay, the north shore mostly from Cleveland west, and the east side of the lake. We are getting reports of mayfly nymphs, which is normal this year and if you are marking fish and not getting them, this is your likely answer.
If you had issues getting on the site earlier, we are aware of that. We are making a few more upgrades including moving over to a better host, but will hold off on that last round of upgrades until mid-March after the season closes. Remember, every time you leave a report, you are entered into the monthly drawing sponsored by Lake Apparel for an Oneida Lake Fishing Report t-shirt. Our first drawing is coming up on March 1. If you haven’t yet, stop by their site for those cool walleye mugs all the cool kids are drinking their coffee out of.
Irish Knots still has a few spots open for this weekend if you are in need of some help out there.
