Wet Wednesday

Spread the love

Drizzle through the early afternoon will turn to more rain later in the day before a mix of precipitation comes in overnight.  We are in the low 40s today and will be right around freezing tonight and into tomorrow before it turns colder for a few days.  We are looking at some pretty strong winds coming in and tomorrow will be breezy.  It looks like we have two snow storms to be concerned with, the first looks to be tracking to the north but the second storm coming in Friday looks more likely to hit Oneida Lake.  Forecasts do not agree on this second part so we will keep watching.

The shoreline is holding fairly well, but we are starting to see some issues especially as you move west along the north shore.  Reports are consistent with 9-11″ of ice thickness, generally half black and half white (that mix is variable around the lake), though reports are of increasing white ice, so what we have will go quickly when the time comes.  Areas near tributaries are highly suspect at this point.  Really not many people are out, but those who are are catching fish.  Big Bay continues to produce and both the north and south shores are producing collections of walleye and perch.  We are not getting crazy reports of double limits, but really nice steady amounts being taken.  We are getting a pretty significant range in terms of depth with results coming from 10-40 FOW.  Most are still using spoons or jigging raps.  The ice is a bit sloppy on top, but that will change with the cold air coming.  Overall, ice conditions are holding up fairly well and the drag is decent.
