A Cold Weekend Ahead

Spread the love

Above freezing for most of the day today before things take a turn toward the cold on Friday.  Both Friday and Saturday nights are forecast to be well below zero.  We did get an extremely light dusting of snow, but barely noticeable, the real weather news is the cold and wind chills over the weekend, particularly on Friday with N-NW winds starting at 5-15 mph, increasing through the day to 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.  Saturday colder, but with less wind.

We are now getting reports of people accessing the ice on Oneida Lake from Lewis Point, Chapman Park, Lower South Bay, and Oneida Shores as well as the locations mentioned in yesterday’s report.  The majority of folks heading out on the ice continue to opt for Big Bay though and remember to bring your spud–the wind has opened some spots around the lake.  The total number of people is still very low as most people are waiting for a bit more ice (a/k/a more reports of 4″ ice), as mentioned yesterday, the ice conditions are variable.   Too soon for a machine, please.  Overall, reports indicate a solid bite.

We do have word that the bait shop in Sylvan Beach has closed, we will try to verify that in the next couple of days.  The closest bait shop options include Apps, Lakeside, and Mike’s-all have Buckeyes in stock presently.  Most shops are open at 6 am on the weekdays and 5 am on the weekends, but it is best to call ahead.
