Winter Weather Alert

Spread the love

Oneida Lake remains largely open water this morning as we begin a long duration snow event.  We are under a winter weather alter from now through Thursday at 7pm and the weather geniuses are calling for 5″ of the white stuff for most of the Oneida Lake area.  Right now I’m largely thankful that the ice did break up earlier this week.

After this snow, we are getting hit by the first solid cold snap that we need.  Really good news is the forecast for the later part of this week and into next week is showing slightly colder temperatures than it was yesterday.  In fact, we may see below zero temperatures Friday night.

I know everyone is thinking Big Bay possibly this weekend, that area of the lake does have a very light skim of ice right now.  This snow is going to be a wildcard along with the wind and could severely complicate things on the west side of the lake.  Rob over at Bartel Road Bait & Tackle is monitoring that area for us.  Just reminding everyone that his shop has moved to a much nicer location across the street from the old one.  He is in the plaza on the south side of the street, directly across the street with the Subway.  Rob is in the back of the plaza furthest from the road, just look for the live bait sign with the ugly guy inside the store, you will have found the place…

We are reminding everyone with early ice to bring a buddy and spud, spud, spud.  It is getting close now for ice fishing…
